Machu Picchu and the Tango Capital

Your Cusco tour will begin with a visit to the impressive colonial cathedral, followed by a guided tour of the Korikancha (Temple of the Sun). Later you'll travel to the outskirts of Cusco for a tour of the Inca ruins of Sacsayhuaman. After your short afternoon excursion you'll be taken back to your hotel to relax for the evening.

Today your Peru tour guide will meet you at your hotel in Cusco for your full day visit through the Sacred Valley of the Inca. Your first stop is visiting the local market in a small village of Pisac. After lunch you'll spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the impressive Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo town and ceremonial center, an important archeological site and an Inca stronghold during the Spanish conquest. After a full day of exploration, the evening will be spent at one of our boutique lodges in the Sacred Valley.

After breakfast you will be picked up for your transfer to the train station for your journey to Machu Picchu. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes you will start with a guided tour of the ruins, in which you will learn all about the origins of this archeological wonder with some free time to explore on your own. Lunch can be taken either before or after your excursion, transportation is provided to your hotel where you can spend the evening at your leisure.

Today you may wish to return to the Machu Picchu ruins for sunrise. Keep in mind that the second entrance to Machu Picchu can be purchased in advance. For those looking for a spectacular aerial view of the ruins, we recommend a short hike to Wayna Picchu (2 departures daily and only 400 visitors per day). It requires approximately four hours to complete, and allows for spectacular views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding area from above. Your return train through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to Cusco will depart in the afternoon and arrive just after sundown.

After a relaxed breakfast at your Cusco hotel and a morning spent at your leisure you will be transferred to the airport for your afternoon flight to Lima. Upon arrival you'll be met and assisted with connecting to your international flight to Argentina. Upon arrival at Argentina's international airport in Buenos Aires you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to spend at your leisure, either relaxing at your hotel, or exploring the city. Ask your Argentina travel specialist about a visit to Recoleta Cemetery, a beautiful historical site surrounded by parks and cafes and a busy arts and crafts market during weekends. In the evening you will attend one of Buenos Aires' finest dinner and tango shows at Esquina Carlos Gardel, a traditional Art Nouveau dining room which first opened its doors in 1893. Here you will experience the very best of Argentine cuisine accompanied by some fabulous wines and followed by a tango show. The tango is a passionate and intense dance and over the course of the evening you will experience one of Argentina's most beloved art forms.

After breakfast at your hotel you'll be able to head out and explore Buenos Aires. Your local guide/host will show you the capital's most important buildings and neighborhoods, including the city centre where you'll see the Obelisco and the Casa Rosada before continuing on to La Boca, San Telmo, Recoleta and Palermo. They will explain the various landmarks and buildings and tell you all about the history of each area and its many architectural influences. Later in the afternoon you'll be taken back to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to relax.

After breakfast at your hotel you'll head out into the pampas plains that surround the city to experience the traditional rural way of life and visit a beautiful estancia. Once there you will be shown some of the fascinating customs of the gauchos, including cooking the famous Argentinean asado of slow cooked beef and ribs roasted over an outdoor charcoal fire. Lunch will be accompanied by the best Argentine wines and served at communal tables. After a long lunch you'll be able to explore the grounds of the estancia on foot, on horseback or by horse-drawn carriage. After a full day of fresh air you'll be driven back to your hotel in Buenos Aires and the rest of the evening is free for you to spend at your leisure.
