Day 1: Arrival in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro

Upon arrival in Brazil you'll be welcomed at Rio de Janeiro's international airport and shown to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to spend at your leisure, either relaxing at your hotel or getting to know the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana and the restaurants and boutiques in the nearby boulevards. Sunset in Rio de Janeiro is spectacular and Ipanema Beach offers the best views. Show more

Day 2: Christ the Redeemer city views

This morning your tour will begin with a drive through Tijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in the world. Driving through the trees you'll reach the peak of Corcovado Mountain, home to the iconic statue of 'Christ the Redeemer'. High above the city Corcovado offers spectacular views of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf, the beaches and the ocean. Show more

Day 3: Historical center and Sugarloaf

Rio de Janeiro

Today's tour of Rio takes you to the historic city center in the morning, passing the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Candelaria Church, as well as many more of the city's important buildings. You will then be taken to the base of Sugarloaf Mountain from where you'll ride the famous cable car to the top. This amazing feat of engineering was the first cable car in Brazil, and only the third in the entire world. Show more

Day 4: The Green Coast

Rio de Janeiro to Paraty

The spectacular drive along the Costa Verde (green coast) to Paraty takes three to four hours and follows a winding route through coastal mountains and jungle covered slopes. Waterfalls tumble down the slopes and golden beaches are glimpsed between the palm trees. After arriving at your hotel in Paraty you'll have the afternoon and evening to spend at your leisure. Day 5: Exploring Paraty

Paraty and Trinidade

In the morning you will start the day with a light walking tour with one of our local guides, making your way through the quaint and colorful streets of Paraty. Different to other colonial cities, the architecture of Paraty has character and originality and is a Historic National Monument and UNESCO listed. As you meander the cobblestone streets, you will learn of the legends and history of the town, visiting churches, a museum and houses. Show more

Day 6: Tropical island retreat

Paraty to Ilha Grande

After breakfast you'll be transferred to the old port in Angra dos Reis, about one hour´s drive along the coast. Similar to Paraty this port town grew as a result of the gold rush, but unlike Paraty it is still in operation today. The Costa Verde around Angra is perhaps Brazil´s most spectacular stretch of coastline, and the two-hour ferry journey to Ilha Grande gives you time to appreciate the magnificent scenery. Show more

Day 7: Island beaches

Ilha Grande

The isolation of Ilha Grande meant that centuries ago it was used as a leper colony and later as a prison. The first Europeans to arrive here were pirates waiting to attack ships laden with gold leaving from the ports of Paraty and Angra dos Reis. Due to this somewhat dark history it took a little while for the island to be settled. Show more

Day 8: Relaxing on Ilha Grande

Ilha Grande

After a relaxed breakfast you'll have the option to head out out on a boat trip around the island to visit some of its many secluded beaches inaccessible on foot. You'll also have the option of snorkeling amongst the tropical fish, sea turtles and coral of the lagoons, or scuba diving amongst the many wrecks in the open seas. There is rumored to be pirate´s treasure buried somewhere near the island, so keep your eyes open. Show more

Day 9: Leaving Brazil

Ilha Grande to Rio and away

After breakfast you'll be shown to the small port in town to catch the boat from Ilha Grande back to Angra dos Reis for your transfer along the Costa Verde to the airport in Rio de Janeiro. Traveler Service will have a group transfer whereas in Premium Service passengers will have a private car. (Meals - B)
