Upon arrival at Trelew airport, you'll be met and driven to your hotel in Puerto Madryn. Situated on the clear waters of the Atlantic's Golfo Nuevo, Puerto Madryn is a busy town with some excellent beaches and seafood restaurants to enjoy. It is also the gateway to the wildlife rich Valdez Peninsula where visitors can see penguins, sea lions, dolphins and whales, as well as a wide variety of birdlife. After a breathtaking journey along Patagonian roads, you will arrive at the penguin colony, where you will walk around the paths among the penguins for about an hour and a half. In the afternoon you will visit Gaiman, where you will learn of the Welsh settlement in the area, taking a break to enjoy a traditional tea service before visiting the Egidio Feruglio Paleontologic Museum, returning to Puerto Madryn at sunset.

Your first stop will be at Caleta Valdes, home to a colony of sea elephants, before continuing along the road to the village of Puerto Piramides. This is the spring home of a herd of southern right whales, generally arriving in late August and staying until mid-December, although some can be seen as early as June. From here you'll take a boat trip around the bay to watch these immense creatures gliding past later returning to Puerto Madryn with the evening at your leisure.

Ushuaia was one of the last regions of Argentina to be settled by immigrants and was originally home to the kayak-paddling Ona and Patagon Indians who hunted seal and fish and daubed themselves in seal-fat during winter to ward off the sub-zero temperatures. Following arrival the remainder of the day will be free for you to spend at your leisure. Warming up by a cozy fire-place in your hotel and enjoying some delicious Patagonian food is highly recommended.

The area is home to a beautiful array of flora and fauna, along with varied birdlife, including woodpeckers, steamer ducks, condors and eagles. Weather permitting, you will then have the option to canoe around the bay for an alternate perspective on the coastline, then after lunch take an afternoon boat trip aboard a Zodiac and sail across the bay to Redonda Island enjoying stunning views across the park.

After breakfast at your hotel you'll be met by your guide for a sailing trip along the Beagle Channel to observe sea life on the nature-rich islands of the bay. You'll be driven to the port where you'll board your boat and begin by sailing past the Les Eclaireurs lighthouse. You'll then reach a large Magellan Penguin colony where you'll stop to observe their activity. Return to Ushuaia in the afternoon for an evening at leisure, or extend your tour to other activities in and around the town.

El Calafate is a picturesque village close to Lago Argentino, one of Patagonia's largest and most stunning lakes. The region is also home to high mountains and the immense ice-caps of Los Glaciares National Park, which was added to the World Heritage List in 1981. The pleasant village of El Calafate is often used as a base for hiking and exploring trips into the national park. Visitors can take boat trips across the lakes and walk through forests of poplar, willow and pine, and on to the glacier fields.

The Upsala Glacier is one of the most important within Los Glaciares National Park. Today starts with you boarding a boat at Puerto Punta Bandera and sailing through icebergs to the front of the Upsala Glacier. Upon arrival, you will have a relaxed afternoon exploring the surroundings of Estancia Cristina, or have an option to upgrade to one of two different programs. One involves a 4x4 excursion to the outskirts of Estancia Cristina, and the other one a beautiful hike or horse ride to a nearby mountain. Upon arrival at the estancia you will enjoy a delicious Patagonian lunch in the restaurant, which has fabulous views. You'll then visit the main house, the chapel and the museum. Walking tracks around the estancia are framed by the Caterina River, the mountain chain of the Andes and Lago Argentino. If you choose to hike or horse ride you will reach the Carnero Mountain. From there you can admire views of the mountain chain and its glaciers, returning in the evening to your hotel in El Calafate.

After breakfast you will begin a full-day's tour to the Perito Moreno Glacier following a beautiful route through Patagonian national parkland. After the drive you'll walk along the Magallanes Peninsula enjoying stunning views of Lake Rico and the Perito Moreno glacier framed by icy peaks and green forested slopes. In the afternoon you'll board a boat for a cruise across Lake Rico. As you approach the glacier you'll be able to see and hear huge blocks of ice breaking off and falling into the waters of the lake.
