The Sacred Valley - The Sacred Valley, also known as the Urubamba Valley, is located about 6km north of Cusco and was the heart of Inca Empire during the 14th and 15th centuries. Today it is home to many impressive Inca ruins, as well as fertile farmland and many traditional Andean communities. The Vilcanota River runs through the wheat fields and rocky gorges of the valley before later turning into the Urubamba River. The whole scene is presided over by the mighty snow-capped peaks of the Andes.

Don’t miss…

Pisac – The Peruvian village of Pisac in the Sacred Valley is well known for its lively market where visitors can bargain over an extensive range of local Andean handicrafts. There are also some impressive Inca ruins close to the town.

Ollantaytambo – This large archeological site was once the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti and has many Incan constructions and well-preserved farming terraces to explore
