Lima - The exciting and fast-paced capital of Peru is currently considered the culinary capital of South America. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Pizarro, Lima replaced Cuzco as the capital of the country and soon became Spain’s richest settlement in the New World. Today around a third of the country’s population live here, and it is the fifth largest city in South America. The Plaza de Armas – This large central square is a great place from which to start exploring Lima. Surrounded by some of the city’s most important buildings, on one side you’ll find the impressive cathedral and on the other side the historic Government Palace.

Colonial Architecture – Lima is dotted with many impressive colonial churches and mansions, including the opulent Palacio Torre Tagle, one of the finest examples of the city’s great mansions.

Museums – Lima is well known for having some of the country’s finest museums, among them is the Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology, as well as the famous Gold Museum.
