Cusco - This high-altitude city in the Peruvian Andes was once the seat of the mighty Inca Empire. Today it is an impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the historical capital of Peru. With a huge wealth of important archeological sites, historical buildings and impressive museums, Cusco is the perfect place for a crash course in Inca history, as well as being a great base from which to explore the nearby Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
