Arequipa - Arequipa is a peaceful and attractive city in the Southern Peruvian Andes with a backdrop of the mighty El Misti Volcano and its sister volcanoes, Chachani and Pichu Pichu. Also known as ‘The White City', because of its numerous buildings built from the local white volcanic rock, Arequipa’s beautiful colonial architecture make it a visually striking city with much to offer travelers. The historic city centre, including the fascinating Santa catalina Convent, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a few hours out of Arequipa you’ll find the spectacular Colca Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world, and home to the majestic Andean condors that glide on the canyon’s thermal currents.

Don’t miss…

The Plaza de Armas – Arequipa has one of Peru’s most beautiful plazas, with an impressive cathedral to the north and well preserved colonial buildings surrounding the other three sides.

The Santa Catalina Convent – Founded in 1579, the Santa Catalina Convent’s narrow cobblestone streets and small plazas were kept hidden from the outside world for the next 400 years. Today the doors have been opened and visitors to Arequipa can catch a glimpse of a bygone way of life.
