    Over the Amazon Jungle to Manaus

  • Saturday. After flying over the green expanse of the Amazon Rainforest, you will be met at Manaus Airport for transfer to the Tropical Hotel on the Rio Negro. The rest of the day is free to spend at your leisure. You can get to know Manaus, the city at the heart of The Amazon Jungle, or spend your time enjoying the facilities of Brazil's largest luxury hotel. With 2 swimming pools, 5 tennis courts, sauna, beauty parlor, shopping arcade, an orchid house, and even a small zoo, spending time in your hotel can be as busy or as relaxed as you wish. For the evening, there are 5 bars with live music and shows available, plus 2 restaurants where you can sample some of the river's 3000 species of fish.

    Manaus Sights & Embarkation

    Manaus to Manacapuru

  • Sunday. After breakfast, you will be picked up from the hotel and taken on a morning city tour of the famous Manaus Theater, Municipal Market, and the floating dock. The opulent theater is the symbol of the city, and was built on the back of the rubber boom that made the wealth of Manaus. After lunch, you will transfer to the docks in Manaus for check-in on the Iberostar Grand Amazon. As the ship embarks for the Rio Negro, one of the main arteries of the Amazon River, you have time to explore your cabin and the ship before watching sunset on deck. At night, there are welcome cocktails and dinner as the captain presents his officers and crew before the First Contacts ballroom party with live music. (Meals - B, D)

    Dolphin Encounters

    Novo Airao to Lake Aracari

  • Monday. Today you will board a small boat and head through the flooded forest for a trek through the jungle followed by a visit to Novo Airao to see the Amazon river dolphins. The dolphins come in three different colors, grey being the most common, some a mix of grey and pink, while others are entirely pink. They are very friendly creatures and seem to enjoy the company of humans. After lunch, the afternoon can be spent on a photo safari or fishing for piranha in Lake Aracari. Alligator spotting at night follows dinner. (Meals - B, L, D)

    Jungle Trekking & More

    Rio Puduari to Alligator Island

  • Tuesday. Dawn bird-watching at Rio Puduari is dramatic, with flocks of macaws, parrots, parakeets and toucans, and many more in competition to make the most noise. After breakfast, you can disembark to trek through the jungle on the banks of the Rio Puduari. Lunch is taken during the journey to Alligator Island, where you can take a photo safari or an excursion through the magnificent Igarape Aturia during the afternoon. During the evening, dinner will be enjoyed in the restaurant and music and dancing will take place in the Moon Ballroom. (Meals - B, L, D)

    Jungle Knowledge

    Rio Cuieiras to Praia Grande

  • Wednesday. A trekking and a photo safari at Rio Cuieiras teaches you some of the tricks of jungle survival -how to make fire without matches and a hammock from palm leaves, and which trees can be used to obtain rubber and chewing gum. A visit to the local community at Cambebas follows, where you can learn how the native people have adapted to living on the edge of the jungle in places where the water level varies by as high as 15m. At Praia Grande you can cruise the flooded forest before having some free time to relax on the river beach. (Meals - B, L, D)
  • Day 6

    Meeting of the Waters

    Meeting of the Waters to Manaus & Rio Solimoes

  • Thursday. Breakfast can be taken at the Meeting of the Waters where two huge rivers of different colors, the Negro and the Solimoes, meet but refuse to mix for around 8km. Only after these rivers mix is the giant river known as The Amazon. The ship returns to Manaus for passengers taking the shorter option to disembark, and for those beginning the cruise with the Rio Solimoes section to board. Passengers continuing the journey have the day to enjoy lunch and the facilities of the vessel. Cocktails, dinner and evening entertainment are all provided. (Meals - B, L, D)

    Cruising on The Amazon

    Manacapuru to Alligator Lake

  • Friday. The Sunrise Lovers Breakfast allows you to enjoy the special dawn chorus every day. There is also a later breakfast for those who prefer not to wake up quite so early, after which a morning trek and photo safari takes you into the jungle. A boat trip through the flooded forests and channels is also possible. Piranha fishing and bird-watching are afternoon excursions at Alligator Lake, while night-time caiman alligator spotting after dinner takes place from much smaller boats. Live music in the Moon Ballroom and at the Sun Deck bar provide nightly entertainment. (Meals - B, L, D)
  • Day 8

    Amazon Activities

    Lake Janauau to King's Igarape

  • Saturday. The Sunrise Lovers Breakfast provides the perfect opportunity to watch and listen to the fantastic bird-life of Lake Janauaca. The morning activities include going on a photo safari or trekking along one of the trails of the forest around the picturesque lake. You may see monkeys and sloths in the trees as well as parrots and macaws. Afternoon excursions include bird-watching and alligator spotting or a boat trip through the flooded channels of the area. Following dinner in the restaurant, a folkloric show takes place in the Moon Ballroom. (Meals - B, L, D)
  • Day 9

    Meeting of the Waters

    Meeting of the Waters to Manaus & away

  • Sunday. Breakfast is taken at the 'Meeting of the Waters' before the ship returns to Manaus in the morning and your cruise ends. You will then be transferred from the port to the airport for your onward flight. The Luxury Iberostar Amazon Cruise can also be combined with any of our other fantastic destinations in Brazil, such as Rio de Janeiro and Iguazu Falls.
