Cafayate - A short journey to the south of Salta is the village of Cafayate, a hub for adventurers and hikers in the area. Cafayate provides the closest point of access to some of the most impressive terrains in the Northwestern deserts of Argentina. The sun, which beats down on the region nearly year round, creates fertile land for grape growing and the area is a center for wine production.

Don’t miss…

Cafayate Ravine - The most dramatic landscapes are very close to town, with the Cafayate Ravine being particularly stunning. Its pink, ochre and red sandstone cliffs and wind-blasted rock formations make for some weird and wonderful vistas.

Vineyards
- Cafayate has some of the most respected vineyards in the country. As well as Malbec and Cabernet varieties the area specializes in the Torrontes grape, producing a delicate and flowery white wine that perfectly accompanies the local cuisine.

Museums - The Museo Arquelógico in town displays interesting artifacts from the area’s ancient civilizations dating back over 1500 years, as well as a collection of Inca artifacts. Just outside of Cafayate there is a still-functioning 350 year old Jesuit windmill, which makes for an interesting daytrip and gives insight into the area’s colonial past.
