    Inca Trail from Chachabamba

    Inca Trail - Day One

  • After breakfast you will catch a train to the Inca site of Chachabamba where you will begin your hike. After a brief visit to the ruins, you'll start the four-hour ascent offering spectacular views over the valley and mountain range before stopping for lunch at Winaywayna next to a lovely waterfall. After lunch you will ascend through this large and spectacular Inca Trail site, following it across a steep mountainside before crossing the stone threshold of the Sun Gate and encountering the unforgettable sweep of natural beauty and human artistry that is Machu Picchu. You'll then continue down the royal flagstone walkway as the sun sets over the ruins. The evening hours are spent in your comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes.     Encounter the Majesty of Machu Picchu

  • Today you'll return to Machu Picchu by bus and spend the day in both guided and individual exploration, visiting the most fascinating features of this astounding and mysterious Inca settlement. Some will want to take the optional hike to the summit of Wayna Picchu for amazing views of the site, while others may want to investigate Machu Picchu's multitude of hidden nooks and corners. After soaking up the unique atmosphere of this glorious monument to the Inca Empire, we will return to Aguas Calientes and board the return train to Cusco. CAT highly recommends a ride in the first class VistaDome train (Premium), which allows for spectacular views of the scenery as you wind your way back to Cusco. Once in Cusco, you will be met and shown back to your hotel. This evening can be spent dining at the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, considered to be one of the top private collections in all of Peru. We're sure it will leave you with plenty to talk about over a gourmet candlelit dinner - reservations upon request. (Meals - B)
