Colca Canyon - Located in the Andean province of Arequipa, the impressive Colca Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world and is twice the depth of the Grand Canyon. The River Colca runs through its entire length and helps support rich farmland where locals still cultivate the land using the ancient method of planting on the pre-Inca terraces which rise up gradually from the valley floor. Dotted throughout the canyon are a series of Andean villages inhabited by the Cabana and Collagua people. Throughout the upper regions of the canyon, llama and alpaca roam free and the majestic Andean condor soars on the thermal currents that flow through it.

Don’t miss…

Andean villages – These small communities offer a fascinating insight into how life must have been in the region in ages gone by. Many of the townspeople still wear authentic traditional dress and life has remained relatively unchanged over time.

Cruz del Condor – This lofty look-out point offers breathtaking views of the full sweep of the canyon, and is also a good vantage point from which to admire and photograph the Andean condor.

Hot-springs – Down in the valley and at intervals along the Colca River are a series of natural hot-springs for visitors to soak away any aches and pains that they might have acquired after hiking through the region
