As ancient as the mysterious ruins that lay at its end, the Inca Trail was originally created as a passage for the high priests and Inca royalty between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Inca Ruins mark the way, and as the trail continues these ruins increase in frequency, size, and what I like to refer to as 'jaw slackening wonder'. On the final day of the Inca Trail you arrive at Machu Picchu as the sun rises. Through the mist, rays of bright orange sunlight shine upon the ancient ruins - revealing the majesty of the lost citadel in all of her glory. The Inca Trail is a once in a life time experience and if you ever have the chance to go, it is not only recommendable – but mandatory. |
