This secluded peninsula with its vast choice of bays, beaches, and jungle countryside to explore was once part of Nicaraguan territory and feels a little wilder than much of the busier mainland. The recently constructed Friendship Bridge has made access to the peninsula´s natural beauty more feasible than it once was, allowing for the perfect mix of pristine, untouched nature and just enough buzz to make for a little nightlife in the small sea-side towns. Rent a four wheel drive and see where the tangle of dirt roads takes you in the jungle interior, or spend your days basking in the sun on the region´s stunning Atlantic beaches.  Each beach is more beautiful than the last with secluded villas, surfing and snorkeling spots, and white and dark sand beaches to be explored along a dramatic Atlantic coast. Alternatively, head inland to explore the rolling pastures and see how the Sabaneros (Costa Rican cowboys) enjoy life.

Don’t Miss…

Buena Vista River - Kayak through the mangroves along the Buena Vista River to spot an array of birdlife, from blue herons to spoonbills. Make sure to keep your eyes on the river too, so as not to bump into any crocodiles!

Turtle watching- If you visit Nicoya Peninsula during a full moon between the months of July and January, take a night tour to Canaronal Beach to observe the nesting and hatching of the marine turtles.

The beaches - Nicoya Peninsula has miles and miles of stunning Pacific coastline. The lush jungle and palms, white sand beaches and turquoise waters create a dramatic visual contrast, and the perfect beaches are too numerous to mention.

Sailing and snorkeling - Take a sailing excursion along the coastline to watch the sunset, chase dolphins and snorkel in protected coves where you’ll be amazed at the immense beauty that lies beneath the surface.

Montesuma - With its close proximity to Costa Rica’s first nature reserve, Cabo Blanco, Montesuma is a classic Costa Rica destination for taking it easy. Stroll through the charming village and relax on its sprawling beaches.
