    Rio de Janeiro

  • After breakfast you'll begin a tour of the city with a trip through Tijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in the world, which sits atop the mountains of Rio and affords amazing views out across the different areas of the city. From here you'll continue to the top of Corcovado, the 710m mountain that is home to the iconic statue of 'Christ the Redeemer' that towers over the city. From here the views of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, the beaches and the Atlantic Ocean are spectacular. You'll then return to your hotel and have the afternoon free to enjoy the beaches and the sunset at your leisure. Our Premium Service includes an evening experiencing the lively nightlife of Rio accompanied by one of our guides. • Day 3

    Historical Centre & Sugarloaf Mountain

    Rio de Janeiro

  • rio sugarloaf cablecar
  • Today's tour of Rio takes you to see the historic city center in the morning, passing the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Candelaria Church, plus many more important buildings in the history of the city. You will then be taken to the base of Sugarloaf Mountain from where you'll ride a cable car to the top. This amazing feat of engineering was the first cable car in Rio, and the third in the entire world, taking passengers to the top of the granite mountain 300m directly above the sea. From the top the views over Guanabara Bay, Copacabana Beach and up to Corcovado are about as spectacular as you can get. The afternoon and evening are free for you to enjoy the beaches and boutiques at your leisure. (Meals - B)
  • Day 4

    The Green Coast to Paraty

    Rio de Janeiro to Paraty

  • paraty streets moon
  • After breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel in Rio and driven along the coastal road to Paraty. The spectacular drive along the Costa Verde lasts three to four hours and follows a winding route through coastal mountains and jungle covered slopes that drop directly into the sea beneath. Waterfalls can also be seen tumbling down the slopes, while golden stretches of sand are glimpsed between the palm trees. After arriving at your hotel in Paraty you'll check in and have the afternoon and evening to spend at your leisure. Premium Class travelers will be taken on an afternoon walking tour of the town and its historical Gold Port with a bilingual guide. Some of the buildings date back to its founding as a port in the 16th Century, but most were built with the prosperity that came after gold was discovered inland at the end of the 17th Century. Paraty was one of the main ports used to ship gold to Europe. The afternoon and evening are free for you to enjoy one of Paraty's renowned seafood restaurants - just ask your Brazil Travel Expert for recommendations. (Meals - B)
  • Day 5

    Paradise in Paraty

    Paraty

  • paraty harbour view
  • Paraty's harbor with its brightly painted boats set in a bay of tropical islands is a beautiful sight to behold. After breakfast your day will begin there, with a schooner trip around some of the hundreds of tropical islands off the coast of Paraty. The boat visits secluded beaches and coves with stops for snorkeling, swimming and strolling along the beach. Lunch is served either on board, or at a restaurant on one of the small islands. A bilingual guide is provided for Premium Tours. If you prefer, other options around Paraty include tours overland to Trindade, a remote fishing village on a stunning beach of huge rocks, green waters and white sands, or a tour of the old Gold Trail, constructed by slaves all the way up into the mountains to the gold fields of Minas Gerais. This tour also takes you to a local cachaca distillery to see the process of producing the national spirit of Brazil. (Meals - B)
  • Day 6

    Escape to Ilha Grande

    Paraty to Ilha Grande

  • ilha grande harbour
  • After breakfast you will be transferred to the old port of Angra dos Reis, about one hour´s drive along the coast. Similar to Paraty this port town grew as a result of the gold rush, but unlike Paraty, it is still in major operation today. The Costa Verde around Angra is perhaps Brazil´s most spectacular stretch of coastline, and the two hour ferry journey to Ilha Grande gives you time to appreciate the magnificent scenery. The ferry arrives at Vila do Abraao, the stunning main village of the island with its quaint church and palm trees. You will transfer to your hotel on foot, or by boat if necessary, as cars are prohibited on Ilha Grande. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the beautiful beaches close to the town such as Praias Abraaozinho and Crena. (Meals ? B)
  • Day 7

    Paradise Getaway

    Ilha Grande

  • ilhagrande lopes mendes
  • The terrain and isolation of the island meant that centuries ago it was used as a leper colony and a prison. The first Europeans to arrive were pirates waiting to attack ships laden with gold leaving from the ports in Paraty and Angra dos Reis, and due to this somewhat dark history it took a little while for the island to be settled. This slow progress helped to make Ilha what it is today - one of the most well preserved natural habitats in the whole of Brazil. Trails criss-cross the island winding through pristine jungle and crystal clear waterfalls and deserted beaches abound, such as Praia Lopes Mendes, voted one of the best in Brazil. Ilha Grade is an un-spoilt paradise and on your first full day here on the island you are free to roam the trails and the beaches at will. (Meals - B)
  • Day 8

    Hidden Treasures

    Ilha Grande

  • ilhagrande green lagoon
  • After a relaxed breakfast you'll head out on a boat trip around the island to visit some of the multitude of beaches. You'll also have the option of snorkeling amongst the tropical fish, sea turtles and coral of the lagoons, or scuba diving amongst the many wrecks in the open seas - you may even find the pirate´s treasure that is rumored to be buried somewhere near the island. If all this seems like a little too much activity you are welcome to spend the day relaxing on the beach to the sounds of the waves and the ocean breezes rustling the palm trees. (Meals - B)
  • Day 9

    Leave Paradise Behind

Ilha Grande to Rio de Janeiro

  • ilha grande river
  • After breakfast, you will be shown to the small port in town to catch the boat from Ilha Grande back to Angra dos Reis for your transfer back along the Costa Verde to the airport in Rio de Janeiro.
