  • Day 1

    Natural Beauty of Bonito

  • After flying in from Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro or Brasilia you will arrive at Campo Grande, the state capital of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil. Upon arrival you will be picked up at the airport for the three hour road trip to Bonito. The rest of the day is free for you to relax after your journey. Over the last few years Bonito has grown into one of the top eco-tourism destinations in Brazil. The spectacular natural attractions of the area stem from the geological formations found in the Bodoquena Hills. A limestone base allows rivers to spring from subterranean sources and release calcium carbonate into the waters. This calcifies all of the impurities in the water, which then sink to the bed of the river, leaving the water as crystal clear as any tropical sea. Limestone caves are dotted around the area as well as swimming holes and waterfalls. The lush Atlantic Rainforest is also home to an amazing variety of plant and animal life.
  • Day 2

    Caves & Clear Waters

  • After breakfast, you will be picked up for a full day's guided tour of Bonito. First stop is the Blue Lake Cave, a 120m-deep lake that fills the bottom of a 200m cave. The cave is filled with some impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and in the morning the sun's rays turn the water a vivid, electric blue. You will also pay a visit to the impressive Sao Miguel Cave. After this, you will be taken into town for lunch at one of the restaurants. The afternoon activity is a gentle 6km rafting trip down the Formoso River to Priest's Island on inflatable rubber boats. You will return to your hotel in the late afternoon and the evening is free for you to spend at your leisure. (Meals - B)
  • Day 3

    Snorkeling in the Sucuri

  • Following breakfast you'll begin a full day's tour with a snorkeling trip down the Sucuri River. With wetsuits and life jackets provided you'll float gently downstream amongst tropical fish and vegetation. The water here is crystal clear with fantastic visibility, and even those with little experience of snorkeling will manage without a problem. After lunch on the banks of the Sucuri, you will embark on an adventurous journey down the Formoso River tubing on individual rubber buoys. Led by experienced instructors you will float down approximately 1200m of the Sucuri River, including waterfalls and rapids. After returning to your hotel in Bonito late afternoon the rest of the day is free for you to spend at your leisure. (Meals - B, L)
  • Day 4

    Into the Pantanal

  • After breakfast you will transfer from your hotel in Bonito to your lodge in the Pantanal, stopping at the Jaguar's Mouth Waterfall along the way. On the private farm where this waterfall is found there are many swimming holes dotted amongst the tall trees. You'll have the opportunity to cool down with a dip in their crystal clear waters and enjoy the waterfalls that tumble from above, making the perfect natural hydro-massage. As with all the rivers which flow through Bonito, fish can be seen swimming in the clear waters. After lunch you'll continue on to the Pantanal region. Class Adventure Travel provides three elegant lodges in the Pantanal, offering differing levels of luxury. After settling into your lodge, you will experience your first spectacular Pantanal sunset. Thousands of birds fill the sky as the sun drops and the sky melts into shades of gold, pink and purple. After dinner at the lodge a night tour can be arranged to spot some nocturnal wildlife. Many of the predators of the area such as jaguars, pumas, ocelots and wolves hunt in the cool of the night and the eyes of the alligators of the Pantanal glow brightly like the stars in the sky.   • Day 5

    Exploring the Pantanal

  • In the morning you will be able to get out and explore the forests of the Pantanal on the Ecological Trail hike. With the help of your expert bilingual guide, you will be able to spot a vast array of animals such as capuchin monkeys and deer while learning about the magnificent flora and fauna of the region. After returning to the lodge for lunch you can take a gentle afternoon canoe trip across the wetlands to view the aquatic life of the waters from close up. The huge presence of alligators in the area is due to the plentiful supply of fish in the waters. Around 260 species of fish make their home here, and in great quantities. Their abundance also provides food for birds, making the area a bird-watching paradise. Flocks of thousands of colorful parakeets and parrots glitter in the sun as they swirl overhead and eagles and hawks watch from the treetops alongside toucans and monkeys. You may also spot the rare and beautiful hyacinth macaw. Dinner is served back at the lodge. (Meals - B, L, D)
  • Day 6

    Wildlife in the Pantanal

  • Following breakfast at the lodge you can take a horseback ride through the flood-lands and the forests of the Pantanal. The savannah and the flooded plains of this area make for a beautiful landscape, and the open spaces are perfect for unobstructed views of a whole array of creatures such as giant ant-eaters, tapirs, capybaras, deer and armadillos. Anacondas and giant otters are spotted occasionally in the area and alligators are also visible during the daytime, lazing in the sun on the banks of the rivers and lakes. After lunch at the lodge, you can take a tour to the Ecological Refuge and watch the feeding of the alligators. An opportunity to fish for piranha can be arranged before returning to the lodge for dinner. (Meals - B, L, D)

    Out of the Wilderness

  • While staying in the Pantanal you should spend at least one morning experiencing the dawn chorus. A staggering array of bird calls and monkey shrieks greet early risers at the start of each day as the sky turns from indigo to gold to clear blue. The memory of this is one you will treasure and makes the early morning wake-up worthwhile. After breakfast, you will be transferred back along the park road to Campo Grande Airport to board your flight back to Sao Paulo or Rio. This tour to beautiful Bonito and into the pristine Pantanal can be combined with any of our other tours within Brazil and South America such as the Amazon Jungle or Iguazu Falls. (Meals - B)
