Itaipú Schooner
After breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the Gloria Marina. Our schooner tour will take you past Sugar Loaf Mountain and east across Guanabara Bay. Niterói occupies the eastern side of the bay, across the bridge from Rio. We pass the historic fort of Santa Cruz guarding the opposite entrance to the bay from Sugar Loaf. The tropical beaches of Piratininga, Sossego and Camboinhas become progressively cleaner, quieter and more beautiful before you arrive at Itaipú Beach, where you will stop for a swim and lunch. The Morares Restaurant in the fishing village of Itaipú serves delicious seafood with views of the beautiful beach. You will return to Rio in the afternoon before being transferred back to your hotel. Tropical fruit is provided on the boat. Drinks and dessert are not included with lunch.

Petrópolis Tour
After breakfast, you depart for Petrópolis – a charming mountain town an hour’s drive from Rio. The tranquility of the mountains surrounding the area and the lush green jungle attracted Brazil’s first emperor, Dom Pedro I, to the region. It was here that he made his summer residence. You will visit the Imperial Museum – housed in the perfectly preserved pink palace – before continuing to the Crystal Palace. This palace was designed to grow orchids and the cathedral close by holds the tombs of the emperors. There are many other fine colonial palaces, mansions, baroque churches and ornate bridges and lamps which give the town a slightly European feel. You can travel through the squares and the parks in a horse and carriage. You will return to your hotel in Rio in the late afternoon. Lunch is included.

Ilha Grande

|
Ilha Grande
Ilha Grande is beginning to grow as a major tourist destination; so many activities around the island can be arranged on arrival. The beautiful scenery of the bay is in part due to the many rocky islands and islets found there, which led to many shipwrecks over the years. Scuba diving amongst the coral, marine life and the wrecks, including a helicopter, is very popular on the island. Cruises leave the town for trips around the island and the bay every day, while trekking around the many trails over the island can be done with or without a guide.
