Caruaru Tour

Caruaru Tour
Caruaru lies around 140km inland from Recife, and is known as the capital city of forró music. The music and dance of the same name take their origin from a fusion of the accordion-based music of the countryside and modern electric instruments with a Latin rhythm. Heard throughout the north-east of Brazil, the style developed when bands tried to play music that both local people and American servicemen from military bases in the area could dance to during the Second World War. The tour also visits the Free Market, the biggest in the North East, where artesan stalls sell many ceramic figures, art and clothes. You will then visit the house of Mestre Vitalino, a museum dedicated to the man most famous for making ceramic figures.

The bus tour to the area visits the church and then crosses the bridge to the island of Itamaracá. As well as passing by the many stunning beaches on the island, the tour also visits the Orange Fort that was built in 1654. There is a reserve dedicated to the protection of the threatened manatee and has a large tank containing a few of the curious sea-creatures. Seeing them balancing on their fins and noses while sleeping is a wonderful sight. Tickets for these are not included in the price.
