Villa La Angostura - This small lakeside village in the spectacular Patagonia Lake District sits on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi and is a popular holiday destination for wealthy Argentines. In fact the presidential summer resort is located very nearby. Much of the architecture has an alpine feel, with wooden cabins, spas and luxury hotels set on wooded slopes with views of the lake backed by snow-capped peaks. Villa La Angostura is also the southern starting point for the famous Seven Lakes Route, which winds its way through the foothills of the Andes to the Chilean border and back.

Don’t miss…

Los Arrayanes National Park – This small but beautiful park occupies a long thin peninsula that reaches 13km out into the Nahuel Huapi Lake. It is mainly covered by striking cinnamon-colored myrtle trees.

Fly fishing – The glacial rivers that flow through the region are very popular for fly fishing, with fresh water trout being the most common catch.

The Seven Lakes Route – Winding through the foothills of the Andes, the Seven Lakes Route passes through two national parks, and every turn offers a view more stunning than the last.

Skiing – The winter months bring plenty of regular snowfall and there are some excellent slopes for skiing and snowboarding nearby.
