Trelew - Trelew is the largest town in the Chubut Valley and is a pleasant place with a nearby airport - useful for visiting Puerto Madryn and the nature reserves along the Patagonia Atlantic coast. It is a small town with a busy modern center, retaining just a few examples of its Welsh heritage in the form of a handful of charming stone chapels.

Don’t miss…

Punta Tombo – In nearby Punta Tombo more than 500,000 penguins make up the largest single colony in the country. Visitors can walk amongst the busy throngs, which are seemingly unperturbed by the presence of people.

Welsh tea – There are a few great cafes in Trelew, but the nearby village of Gaiman is better known for its tea houses. This sleepy Welsh settlement bakes in the Patagonia desert plains a short drive from Trelew. Some of the inhabitants still speak their mother tongue and a selection of tea houses serve traditional afternoon teas with Welsh treats.

The dinosaur museum – For those interested in paleontology, this excellent museum is not to be missed.
