This tour takes in two of South America’s most incredible countries, whisking you around some of the highlights of Argentina and Brazil in style. First stop will be Buenos Aires, a seductive city with an unabated passion for Tango, football and steak – you’ll have the opportunity to explore its beautiful streets, visit its top-class restaurants and take in a Tango show before flying north to Iguazu Falls. With over 270 separate falls, some up to 80m high, set amongst lush green jungle, Iguazu Falls is one of the world’s largest and most spectacular waterfalls. Last stop will be Rio de Janeiro, otherwise known as ‘The Marvelous City’- it is without a doubt one of the world’s most impressive destinations. Stretched between jungle covered mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, it is a city of long golden beaches and an exuberant cultural life. Simply enjoying the views over Copacabana, Ipanema, Sugarloaf Mountain and the iconic statue of ‘Christ the Redeemer’ will leave a lasting impression.   • Day 1

    Arrival in Argentina

  • Upon arrival at the international airport in Buenos Aires you will be welcomed, escorted to your hotel and briefed on all your travel plans for your stay in Argentina. The rest of the day is free for you to spend at your leisure, either relaxing in your hotel, or exploring some of the nearby areas. One option would be to visit Recoleta Cemetery, a stunning historical site that coexists peacefully with the surrounding string of Parisian-style cafes and bars, and the busy arts and crafts market that takes place there at the weekend. It is within this famous cemetery that Evita Peron's grave can be found, along with those of many other notable characters of Buenos Aires. In the evening we recommend that you dine at one of the many celebrated steak-houses that have made Buenos Aires famous. Your Argentina Travel Expert will be happy to give you any advice you require, and to make both recommendations and restaurant reservations for you.

    South American Sophistication

  • The Buenos Aires guided tour takes in many of the city's main attractions, including La Boca, San Telmo, the Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada, the cathedral, colonial Cabildo and the old Town Hall, before continuing on to the elegant Barrio Norte and finishing in the quieter residential neighborhood of Palermo. In the evening you will be attending one of the city's finest 'Dinner and Tango' shows, where you will experience the very best of Argentine cuisine accompanied by some fabulous wines. Following dinner the show will begin -Tango is a passionate and intense dance, and over the course of the evening you will have the opportunity to hear many of Argentina's most beloved numbers.     The Tango City at your leisure

  • This day is free for you to enjoy the city of Buenos Aires at your leisure. Many extra tours are available in and around the city, or you can choose to explore on your own. One option is a trip outside of the city to visit an estancia, where Gauchos (Argentinean cowboys) still maintain their traditional lifestyle. Boat trips around the Tigre Delta an hour outside the city are also popular, as is the trip across the Rio de la Plata to the historic town of Colonia del Sacrament in Uruguay. In the evening we can recommend restaurants across the city, and you may also want to visit one of the traditional tango clubs, or the milongas, where you can watch the locals dance, and join in if you wish. Tango lessons can also be arranged if you want to learn the basic steps before visiting a milonga. (Meals - B)
  • Day 4

    First Glimpse of Iguazu Falls

  • After being picked up at your hotel in Buenos Aires and transferred to the airport you will catch a morning flight to Iguazu, catching your first glimpse of the 275 separate falls as the plane comes into land. After arriving in you will head straight out for a tour of the Argentine side of the falls. Here, you will find walkways built over the river, and around and alongside the falls, allowing you to experience the majesty of Iguazu from very close quarters. You'll be able to see, hear and feel the water falling all around you, in some cases cascading 80m down from the plateau above. The undoubted highlight is standing on the very edge of The Devil's Throat as the water pounds the bottom, creating the roar and water vapor that mean Iguazu Falls can be seen and heard for many miles around. After lunch at La Selva Restaurant (Premium Only), you will be transferred to your hotel with the evening free. (Meals - B) CAT Tip: Make the most of your trip: Five evenings every month visitors to Iguazu are able to take advantage of the opportunity to visit the largest waterfall, the Devil's Throat, by moonlight. Please ask for further information.

    Brazilian Iguazu

  • A morning tour takes you across the border to the Brazilian side of Iguazu for the best panoramic views of the world's most beautiful waterfall. Extra options on the Brazil side include 10min helicopter flights over the dramatic falls, or an adventurous river ride on the Macuco Safari boat taking you almost to the edge of the tremendous falling curtains of water. Both these activities are included for Premium Service, as is lunch at Porto Canoas Restaurant above the falls. You will head back to your hotel mid-afternoon and have the evening free to spend at your leisure. One option for the evening is a Latin American Dance Show with Dinner. (Meals - B)
  • Day 6

    On to Rio - The Marvellous City

  • Morning options around Iguazu include visiting the Bird Park, where hundreds of colorful tropical species such as toucans, macaws and hummingbirds are free to fly around the huge aviaries. Itaipu Dam was once the largest hydro-electrical plant in the world. Tours take you around the huge site and also inside the dam wall where you'll learn the story of its construction. After lunch you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Rio. With luck the pilot of your plane will make a circuit of the falls after take-off, one of the most spectacular sights in the world. Upon arrival in Rio, 'The Marvelous City', you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to get to know the beaches like Ipanema, Leblon and Copacabana and the restaurants and boutiques in the boulevards nearby. Sunset in Rio is a spectacular time, so why not join Rio's residents and head for the beaches where the mountains cast long shadows over sea and sand under a pink and golden sky. (Meals B)

    Tijuca Forest & Corcovado

  • After breakfast you'll begin a tour of the city with a trip through Tijuca Forest, the largest urban forest in the world, which sits atop the mountains of Rio and affords amazing views out across the different areas of the city. From here you'll continue to the top of Corcovado, the 710m mountain that is home to the iconic statue of 'Christ the Redeemer' that towers over the city. From here the views of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain, the beaches and the Atlantic Ocean are spectacular. You'll then return to your hotel and have the afternoon free to enjoy the beaches and the sunset at your leisure. Our Premium Service includes an evening experiencing the lively nightlife of Rio accompanied by one of our guides. The vibrant district of Lapa is home to some of Rio´s best clubs, with live bands playing Brazilian music such as Samba, Pagode and Bossa Nova. This experience can take place on any of your nights in Rio de Janeiro. (Meals - B)

    Historical Centre & Sugarloaf Mountain

  • Today's tour of Rio takes you to see the historic city center in the morning, passing the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Candelaria Church, plus many more important buildings in the history of the city. You will then be taken to the base of Sugarloaf Mountain from where you'll ride a cable car to the top. This amazing feat of engineering was the first cable car in Rio and the third in the entire world. Taking passengers to the top of the granite mountain 300m directly above the sea, the views over Guanabara Bay, Copacabana Beach and up to Corcovado are about as spectacular as you can get. The afternoon and evening are free for you to enjoy the beaches and boutiques at your leisure. (Meals - B)

    Flying Home from South America

  • Depending on the time of your flight, today you may have some more time to enjoy a morning on the beach and some lunch before heading to the airport. International flights often leave Rio de Janeiro in the evening. Whatever the case may be, your guide will pick you up for your transfer to the airport in good time for check-in. This Rio tour can be combined with any of our other fantastic destinations in Brazil or South America, such as Buzios, Paraty & Ilha Grande and many more.
