El Chaltén - Despite being a small mountain village with a permanent population of only around 300, El Chaltén is a busy tourist destination with many hiking enthusiasts and climbers stopping off in the town before starting their high-altitude adventures. There are many options for hiking through the spectacular mountains, forests, lakes and glaciers of the area, from shorter ambles to more challenging hikes.

Don’t miss…

Day hikes – For inexperienced hikers, or those with a limited amount of time, there are a large number of light day hikes from the town leading out into the stunning surrounding landscapes.

Mount Fitz Roy - The steep sides of Mount Fitz Roy stretch an impressive 3404 meters high and are a real challenge for climbers. However, it’s not hard to trek to the base of this striking granite massif and observe the climbers setting out to conquer the peak.
