El Calafate - On the southern shore of Lake Argentino the small modern town of El Calafate provides access to the nearby Glacier National Park, home to forty-seven glaciers, including the vast Perito Moreno. Of all Argentina’s incredible landscapes the Southern ice fields are, for many, the most beautiful. Vast blue expanses of ice stretch from the Andes down into Lake Argentino and Lake Viedma and the towering walls of ice are simply breathtaking. The area is an extremely popular tourist destination and is best visited during spring, summer and autumn from November to March.

Don’t miss…

Perito Moreno Glacier – Often compared to a vast turquoise sea, the Perito Moreno Glacier must be one of nature’s greatest wonders. One of the few advancing glaciers on earth, it is around 30km long and up to 60m high. As well as seeing the Perito Moreno by boat, it’s also possible to hike across its surface.

Upsala Glacier - About twice the size of the Perito Moreno and covering an area three times larger than metropolitan Buenos Aires, the Upsala glacier is only accessible by boat. Trips take visitors out onto the lake to navigate through giant icebergs in Antarctic like surroundings.

Spegazzini Glacier - Famous for its 100m high wall of ice, the Spegazzini glacier can also be reached by boat and is a spectacular sight.
