Upon your arrival at the International airport in Buenos Aires you well be welcomed and escorted to your hotel. Here you will be briefed on all your travels during your stay in Argentina. You will then have the rest of the day free to spend at your leisure after a long flight. Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan and energetic city with an intense cultural life. Should you wish you can explore the one of the areas around your hotel in the afternoon such as La Recoleta. It is within this famous Cemetery that Evita Peron – along with other notable characters of local political and social life in Buenos Aires – is to be found. The cemetery in Recoleta is stunning and it seems to coexist peacefully with the surrounding string of Parisian-style cafés, pubs, restaurants and the art and craft market that takes place during weekends. In the evening we would be glad to make reservations at one of many fine steak-houses such as Cabana las Lilas, Mirasol, or Piegari. A number of other fine international options are available well. |

Free day in Buenos Aires |
 |
This day is left free for you to enjoy the city of Buenos Aires at your leisure. Many of our optional extra tours are highly recommendable to fill this time and experience the city better. One of the more interesting options includes a colorful day spent at an estancia on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Lunch is included within this excursion and consists of a traditional Argentinean asado – or barbeque. Huge slabs of prime beef are slowly grilled to the meat lover’s perfection during which you may enjoy some fine Argentinean wine. Following lunch you will be invited to partake in a number of traditional Guacho activities. If this day is free on a Sunday you may wish to take a tour of the San Telmo Flea Market. Another very worthwhile optional extra is the day trip to Uruguay and Colonia del Sacramento. With lunch included this tour visits Uruguay’s most charming town and leads you though its most spectacular sites including the old quarter of Oporto or Lisbon and the Puerta de la Ciudadela.

Buenos Aires to Salta |
 |
After breakfast you will be driven to the domestic airport for your 2 hour flight to Salta. You will be met at the airport in Salta and transferred to your comfortable hotel. The city of Salta still has a distinctly Hispanic feel to it, an urban skyline distinguished by the colonial architecture of its original buildings and churches. In the afternoon you will undertake a guided city tour visiting the Basilica Cathedral, the church of San Francisco, the Catholic University and the Convent of San Bernardo, whose front piece was carved by Indians back in 1762. You will then be led to the Parque San Martin where you will board a cable car for a ride up to the Cerro San bernardo – where thrilling and fantastic views of the city can be observed. Recently the city government has finished a painstaking restoration of the old city centre. If you should feel like spending the evening out; there is a pleasant downtown restaurant by the name of Solar de Convento, reservations are available upon request.

Full Day Humahuaca |
 |
You will be collected from your hotel in the early morning and proceed to Purmamarca – a tiny yet charming village located at the foot of the of the striking Cerro de los Siete Colores (The Seven Colored Mountain). You will be invited to stop here or a while in order to appreciate the beauty of the luminescent colors of the mountain – as well as the tranquility of the old church that stands before it. You will then proceed on towards the next village called Tilcara – a slightly larger town that has an extraordinary Archaeological Museum. Several Inca mummies are on display in this museum along with other artifacts from the old empire. Following a tour around the museum you proceed onwards to the Humahuaca and the Pucara, or stronghold. The Quebrada de Humahuaca, or the canyon of Humahuaca, was declared a World Heritage site, and the many amazing ruins found in the area are unforgettable. Lodgings of Hunter Gatherers, fortresses of the Inca, and remains of the fight for independence are all found within the area. After being guided around this fascinating site you will return to Salta. For dinner we can make reservations for you at the recommendable la Terraza Restaurant.
(Meals - B, L)
CAT Tip – Make the most of your trip: On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays we suggest doing Movitrack’s Safari to the Clouds including Salinas Grandes and the Humahuaca visit.

Calchaqui Valleys |
 |
In the morning you will be collected from your hotel for a full day tour of the Calchaqui Valleys. You will drive south of Salta towards Molinos. This colonial era town is charming and has a beautiful church and an inn which was the house of the last Spanish governor in the area. The nearby Archeological Museum at Cachi is quite spectacular. The Cafayate region is one of the driest spots in the country – it is said to be sunny every single day of the year – famous above all for its Torrontes wines and surrounded by vineyards and wineries many of which are open to the public. It is always a nice option to spend an evening overnight in either Molinos and/or Cafayate. However, if you should decide to return to Salta you will be transferred back to your hotel. There are a number of very impressive local peña restaurants in town, Balderrama is our recommended favorite.
(Meals - B, L)
CAT tip – Make the most of your trip: allow more days in the the Valleys to visit both Molinos and Cafayate and the colorful villages along the way. Overnight stays are available at exclusive vineyards and cozy inns.
