New Budget Airline to open in Brazil

The founder of JetBlue Airways, David Neeleman, is set to launch a new airline offering great competitive prices in Brazil. The name of the new airline is yet to be released but operations are set to begin at some point in the next year.

New Budget Airline to be open in BrazilCurrently the Brazilian market is split between the more budget orientated GOL, and regional powerhouse TAM, which following the collapse of VARIG, appears to have taken over the reigns as Brazil’s national carrier. Neeleman’s new airline will add further competition to the region and it is expected that a range of new routes will open up in Latin

American destinations – with airlines offering cheaper fares to more distant places, on a continent that has traditionally been associated with expensive regional flights. Neeleman recently stated that, “The Brazilian market is ready for a third major airline and that there is sufficient untapped potential to support all of us.” So far Neeleman claims to have raised over $150 million to finance the new Brazilian budget carrier. During this financial announcement in late March, Neeleman also explained how a deal had been struck with Brazil’s own Aero-manufacturing company – Embraer, which would see the purchase of up to 40 E-195s with 118 seats each from the local conglomerate.

The E-195s are far more fuel friendly than the aircraft used by competitors GOL and TAM, and it is expected that the payload to range ratio of the new airline will enable it to offer cheaper, more environmentally friendly flights.
