Reserva Amazonica & the Tambopata Nature Reserve |
 |
Following a delicious buffet breakfast you can take a tour of the Tambopata Nature Reserve. Crossing the mighty Madre de Dios River you walk through some stunning virgin rainforest where you have a very good chance of seeing a number of monkeys and perhaps even a capybara. After an hour or so of walking, you come to Lake Sandoval. The calm waters of this lake make this an ideal home for giant river otters and caimans. With luck you may even see the occasional Hoatzin. Following this you continue upon the trail through the jungle before arriving at the Concepción farm a couple of hours later. A number of medicinal plants are farmed here by a group of Shaman from across the area. One of the Shaman will take the time to explain the many different medicinal properties of the plants on the farm. There is also a clay-lick on the farm where one can see a number of macaws. The group then boards some canoes in order to paddle around the Cochas ecosystem – a series of depressions that makeup a wetland ecosystem. Following your time on the Cochas you return to the lodge by boat. You have the rest of the afternoon and evening to spend at your leisure. Following dinner you may wish to attend another of the lodge’s jungle presentations. ( B, L, D) |
